FAQ

Questions that actually come up

Answered plainly, in the order they tend to be asked.

Do you come onto Portsea Island?

Yes. Portsmouth is the home ground. The island has three roads on: the M275, the A3 at Portsbridge, and Eastern Road. The van uses all three. Gosport is a separate peninsula, usually by road, sometimes after the ferry if that is where the vehicle already sits.

Is there a workshop I should drive to?

No. There is no depot in Cosham, Fareham, Gosport or anywhere else. The work is done where the vehicle is parked. If it will not roll, that becomes a recovery job.

Can a puncture be repaired?

When the hole is in the central tread and small enough, yes. A sidewall injury is a new tyre. You are told which it is before any fitting starts. A tyre that has been driven a long way while flat may already be finished on the inside.

What if the locking wheel nut key is missing?

The nut can still come off with the right kit. Say the make of the car and whether the wheels are alloy. Rounding the nut on a cheap socket is how alloys get ruined; that is not how this is done.

Do you fit vans and run-flats?

Yes. Van tyres take a higher torque and a different jacking plan. Run-flats are inspected before anyone talks about a repair, because a driven-on run-flat is often a replacement. Put the size and the type in the first message.

How do I get a price?

Use the quote slip. Name the size if you have it, the job, and where the vehicle is. That is enough for a price.

Where do I find the tyre size?

On the sidewall, in a line such as 205/55 R16 91V. The first number is the width in millimetres, the second is the height of the sidewall as a share of that width, and R16 is the wheel diameter in inches. The last part is the load index and the speed rating. Copy the whole line into the message if you can read it.

What hours do you keep?

The listing is open 24 hours. Weather, bridges and the tide still affect how a job on the island feels. That is geography, not a promise about how soon a van appears.

Do you come as far as Fareham and Whiteley?

Fareham, Portchester, Titchfield, Stubbington, Lee-on-the-Solent, Gosport and Whiteley (Hampshire) are all on the published callouts. If a name is not on those pages, the job is not ours.

Still a question left?

Put it in the quote slip with the job and the place. The answer comes back with the price.
